Maldon All Saints Church


In the centre of Maldon at the junction of Silver Street and the High Street is All Saints Church with its very unusual three sided tower dating from Norman times. The precise date of the founding of the church is unknown. The church has some very fine statues set in niches, one of them depicting Byrthnoth the defeated hero of the battle of Maldon 991.

The church has a very fine stained glass window known as the" Washington Window" given in 1928 to All Saints' Church by the citizens of Malden, Massachusetts, U.S.A. in memory of the life of the Reverend Laurence Washington, Great-great-grandfather of George Washington. The Washington Window which is located in the D'Arcy Chapel.
