Here is another in my series of blue and gold models this time the 6.7 Steam Wagon taken from the 1937 number 6 manual. This was also published post war 1945-1950. The model is a good representation of an overtype steam wagon such as those built by Foden, this type of wagon was built between 1900's and around 1930. By the time of the publication of this Meccano model it was a pretty antiquated type of machine and at the end of its run in the 1950 manual a real museum piece. Interestingly the steam wagon was a type of vehicle largely confined to the U.K. no doubt this was largely due to the abundant supplies of coal that powered almost all accepts of British industry. I made very few changes to the original model instructions, the main one being to replace the flexible plates that formed the boiler with p/n 162 boiler this not being included in the number 6 set. I bravely rolled a 5 x 5 hole curved plate to form the chimney as per the manual. The model has no operating functions other than steering operated by a 1" drive belt and cord. A hinged plate is used to form the rear roof and part of the cabin back. Original instruction manual page below The model built in blue and gold I think is a rather charming period piece the wagon is loaded with Meccano packing cases on their way to Liverpool docks.
